IIRC yours is an early one.
So...
You need to prise/pull the whole surround off including the buttons, comes out in one piece, but is quite firmly fixed!
I put my fingers in the storage tray, push down to wedge them in, and pull bottom out..
It will come out but it's tight!
Then just remove the four screws holding the unit in...
sorry no ISO DIN cage on these, so it's a pain to get the new stereo in just the right place.. had plenty of practise so I've got the knack!
At least the wiring is std ISO.
Later cars have a slightly different setup, with a DIN cage sort of thing, but as UK uses a JVC unit, we have to remove this on PDi's and drill 2 holes to make the JVC fit.. cheers KIA!
