Ok, so for the past two weekends we have towed the Sportage behind the motorhome. First weened was from Chicago to Warren Dunes, MI, and the second was to wisconsin.

After towing, I notice a burn smell inside the Sportage. Not outside, but I notice it inside.

I am towing transfer case N and gear in N. I am sure I am in N because I put it into gear and nothing happens. I should also note that the 4x4 light is on. It seems that with the N position of the transfer selector being in between 4H and 4L, it is impossible to be in N without that light being on. Maybe the light being on is normal.

It could be that the burn smell is simply caused by the exhaust and heat coming off of the big Cummins in the back of the motorhome. Or not.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

So, then perhaps what is happening is that the transfer case is in Neutral and the front hubs are locked. This tendency is probably why Motorhome Magazine recommends the manual locking front hubs.
