Sounds like you have a serious problem...

How old is the car? Is it still under warranty? If so get it back to the dealer pronto. If not get a professional to check the brake system out ASAP.
Better that than finding yourself in intensive care!!!!

When you say brake pedal has gone solid, is that becasue it is right on the floor? If so allow it to return upwards and pump the pedal repeatedly. Does some amount of braking return? If so it is more than likely there is air in the system and it requires bleading.. B)

Any update on this?

A solid pedal sounds like a servo failure, no reported probelms so far with the picanto... apart from the rear brake squeal.
Only recall issued was for the steering wheel, but this was at launch so 99% were fixed prior to delivery.

Stoneacre Wallasey the dealer refuses to help. Said they had looked at the brakes and found no problem.

Said they drove it but they haven't looked properly at all.

This is a brand new car that is very dangerous and has already been back twice for brake problems that they denied existed.

It's going to court now.

I AM SO SORRY I BOUGHT THIS DANGEROUS CAR FROM THIS DREADFUL COWBOY DEALER.
I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYBODY TO BUY A KIA PICANTO.

I would advise you to contact KIA UK customer care, they take any complaints very seriously!
KIA contact the dealer complained about within hours, and the dealer must reply by end of business that day.
Have you tried another dealer?

I've heard on zero problems similar to yours so far, sounds like you do have a problem, but a really crap dealer who hasn't looked properly at your car.

Kia website quotes the following which I have used today re my own post re brake / transmission / steering problem:

Kia Customer Services
Kia Motors UK Limited
PO Box 464
Stockport
SK3 0WU

Phone number: 0800 77 57 77

email: [email protected] (could actually be [email protected] so I suggest sending to both to be sure).

No comment on quality of service - too early for me but again watch my post for more in due course.

Hiya.

Sounds like a problem for the dealers if still under warrant, get it to them A.S.A.P. Although my car has not had the same problem as yours, it has had a hand brake problem initially attributed to adjustment, but when the dealer looked closely, they found a seized calliper on the rear breaks. would imagine if the caliper's had seized it could give you a brake problem similar to what you are experiencing.

Definate off the road and to a mechanic though.

Hello 3QAdam,

I trust no one was injured, that's what matters.

You are discribing a clasic brake servo problem, there could be other reasons, drawing in air for one, but I'd stake it's a servo problem.

I'f your taking it to court get yourself armed with an independant report,
( not from a garage ), costs you'll get it back if it goes in your favour.

However in the first instance avoid court if you can, talk to Kia UK, you might have to thump desks.

Go for it Adam, don't let them get away with it.

I hate it when people say thumps desks and such like..
Working in that sort of enviroment I'm often called out for techincal queries and customer concerns.. desk thumping gets you no-where with me, ask me politely, I'll bend over backwards to help.
Most normal people react quite the same.. try it next time you want something.

Which begs the question, what's happened to your politeness.

But I understand your post.

I dislike it when people deliberately misconstrue or put slants on other people's posts for no other reason but their pettiness.

Thumping Desks is just an expression Murphwiz used because of
some peoples negative dealings with Kia as expressed on this forum and
I used the word "might" in my thread.

I would expect nothing more from staff but for them to bend over backwards to help customers.

In return I would hope politeness is shown to you.

I am sure normal people have other, far more worthwhile things to hate then harmless expressions.

Try something more worthwhile next time you want something hate.

Ahhhh another dissatisfied Stoneacre customer.

I bought my Picanto from Stoneacre Durham, their customer service was appalling.

When I picked my new car up they had no trained member of staff to complete the transaction and instead I got a junior who knew nothing. They didn’t even look at my part-ex car which I had cleaned and polished like new. I nearly drove off without the maintenance books which they had forgotten to put in the car and they had not stamped the delivery inspection certificate in the book. They had no second key for my brand new car even though I gave them one for my part ex car and they lied to me about its whereabouts, they told me it was locked in a member of staff’s drawer and they had gone home. It took them 2 months to get me a new one made after about 6 phone calls and lots of lies about when I would receive it.

They messed up my private reg transfer application, charged me the wrong fee, sat on the application for a month and in the end I was without my plate for nearly 3 months.

Basically the whole experience with them was a shambles. At the end of my dealings with them I asked them if they were new to the game of selling cars, considering they have about 20 garages nationwide you would expect them to know what they're doing. They don't know their arse from their elbow. I have removed every little bit of Stoneacre advertising from the car (including the rear window sticker which completely obscured my view for the first few miles of driving). They are a disgrace.

Steer Clear is my advice!

I bought my Picanto from Stoneacre Grimsby, My girlfriend also has a Picanto and my Step Dad bought a Cerato after I got my Picanto!
We have had a bit of a mixed bag with Stoneacre Grimsby, with my girlfriend they were really good although they have only really had to sell her the car. Myself, not too many problems although you usually have the chase up the accessories department, with the Cerato we have had quite a bit of trouble we were meant to get a tank of petrol and some mats - nothing! and we are still missing the spare key! We are chasing them and they tell us there is a backlog!

Like picantoowner I have removed all branding from my Picanto, removed the rear window sticker, the awful tax disc holder and when I transferred my private plate over I didnt get my new plates from Stoneacre but ordered them off the internet so theres no branding.

Maybe I was wrong a little!
I took my car in for them to have a look at the brakes because they were scraping - they have replaced the rear brake pads BUT while my car was with them someone has hit the front bumper which has taken off some of the paint! Went to a local scratch place at Stoneacre Grimsby's recommendation and they would pay a "chunk" - come out at £100 and they have offered to pay half - I said I dont mind making a contribution but im not going £50 out of pocket for something I am sure happened while it was with them! They have offered me a discount on a service - I am yet to find out how much, if the amount isn't right then I'll be complaining!

They told me they noticed the bumper when they did their "inspection report" before taking in the car - bearing in mind I haven't seen this report so they could easily add it in and I haven't signed anything to say that there were marks!
