Lets figure this out! Easter Eggs in the Electronic Computer age are 'undocumented' features of the equipment... with that in mind...

The Infinity system with Navigation obviously has an operating system. Has anyone been able to figure out:
Can it play ANY sort of Video via USB?
Is there a button combination to get into the engineering setup mode?
What exactly IS the operating system?

Anyone do anything different that is undocumented? Any hidden modes or features? I like tinkering and so far haven't figured out anything I aksed above.

Typically these types of units have some sort of back door into the operating system for diagnosis and firmware updates.

Let's PLAY!

I did "play" around one day trying to see if there were any special button sequences to get any additional menus to come up. (Actually was trying to find a way to make the Artist & Song name display all the time on Sirius Sat). After trying about 50 things, I just gave up. Didn't find anything at all. Didn't try real hard either. Was just bored and pressing buttons while waiting in a parking lot for someone.

I would love to find a way to reconfigure things...

The Infinity system with Navigation
I take it this means that you do have the Infinity system...so I have a question for you. Do you use the Sirius Sat radio service? If yes, then what shows on your screen when you are listening? Mainly, I want to know if yours displays the artist name and song title all the time, or do you also have to hit the info button to get that info. I really really hate that it does not show me the artist/title info by default. This is the only Sirius system (out of 6 different systems now) that does not show that info by default.

If there were any "Easter Egg" that I would love to find in this system, it would be a way for me to show that info all the time.

What is funny is that the user manual for the system shows the radio displaying 4 lines of info there, two of the lines being the artist & title.

I have mentioned it to the dealer, but they are pretty useless if there is no info about it in their computers. They say they will talk to Kia about it, but I don't believe them.

My Sirius makes me hit information to get artist information etc..... I really like the Navigation setup, but I think they could have spent more time on the GUI for the rest. This is why I would like to get into the system. I am a programmer by day (and night) so re-writing the GUI if this is indeed a Windows CE box would not be very hard and would allow us access to much more intuative screens while we drive.

I wouls also be curious as to why their is a Video input wire in the Ipod interface shown in the woring diagram but the plug itself in my car has that wire location empty. This units Resolution is 800x480 which is very good and it would be nice to be able to run Video in and actually acess it.....Again....shouldn't be too hard but we need access to the system backend to see.....

Ok...to get to this screen, was purely accidental, and I am not able to do it every time.

I was bored during lunch and was screwing around with the radio.

I went into the setup, and went to the part to update the GPS. It would come up and tell me that map info wasn't found on the USB. (I didn't have anything plugged into the USB port).

Well, it was showing me the map of the earth, and the position of the satellites. My screen was dusty, and I wiped my finger across the screen, and POOF, the DEV screen came up.

I then exited the DEV screen, and retried getting into it, to see how to do it consistently. I started wiping my finger across the screen back and forth, and also pressing the upgrade button in the bottom right corner. After about 2-3 minutes, it suddenly showed the DEV screen again. No idea how I did it, but I tried again, and this time it only took me about 30 seconds. Tried again, and it took me about 3 minutes.

I don't know exactly what is the sequence of events that lets me into the DEV screen. I will mess with it more when I get bored again, but thought you guys might like to mess with it yourself, and maybe you can document how to get into that screen.

I figure that if it is a certain touches on the screen, that maybe there are other screens that it might work on also.

Let me know if any of you try, or figure out anything.

I don't know yet what the "Locus Display" option is. It was turned off when I first got into the DEV screen. I turned it on, but am not yet sure if anything changed. Have to wait until I get time to play more.

That's funny,

When I had my 09 Borrego EX-V8 in for my engine problem in Jan 2011, I also brought up the malfunctioning GPS/Audio screen/system. My system has been locking up, and the screen freezes. After a few seconds, or sometimes minutes, the system will reboot itself. The screen freezing and the reboots have become more and more frequent, sometimes occurring every 30 seconds!

As far as the O/S is concerned, I know for a fact that it's Microsoft Windows Automotive...it has to be, because I've actually seen an error message:
"Windows Fatal Application Error has occurred" after a screen freeze.

What's funny is that the service manager told me that:
1) there is no reboot switch or factory reset sequence
2) you can't update the system
3) you can't update the maps
4) you're s.o.l. and you have to replace the whole system, at a cost of $2,000 because your 100,000 mile dealer-purchased extended warranty doesn't cover the GPS system after 35,000 miles (the first time the system froze and rebooted was before 35,000 miles anyway)

So, to see the "USB Upgrade" button on there makes things very interesting! I will try to find this on my Borrego, once I get it back from service.

WOW! It's been a long time since I posted that.....went out and looked at this morning. Easy to get to the screen....just touch the earth for a while. I tried this method on the other setup and information screens and nothing else like this so far. Thanks for the information.....I knew there was more to these things.....now to just figure out the rest!
