My oil is like chocolate milk. I am sure I have a failed head gasket or cracked head.

Anyone have any diy advice? Dealer will do it for 1100 plus 400 for parts Which isn't too bad but I'd love to attempt it myself if I could learn how to remove the timing chain. ....

I've never opened this motor up and I know nothing about kia engines. I've Done subaru head gaskets but those are timing belts.

My local Mechanic said the 3.8l v6 kia motor is a real pain to get the timing chain off And that it requires special kia tools.

Can anyone comment on this?

@drewbabich

I read through (quickly) the procedure for a 3.8L timing chain removal, did not see a need for special tools.

I would say its a fairly big job and will require time and patience.

I recently did a timing cover reseal on my 2003 Ford Escape 3.0L v6, had ~8 hrs in the job... Not a lot of room to work was probably the worst part.
