I own a '02 Optima and haven't had a problem with my dealer's staff and service. I do believe it is necessary to find a good dealer and stick with them. Having had experience with Nissan at a dealer level, I know problems crop up in any brand and it is very important that the dealer stand by their product. I had all sort of little problems along the way but my dealership also dealt with them. When I switched to Toyota I found them less problematic than the Nissan products but the dealer in my area was tough to deal with on a personal level.

I recommend you trying another dealer in South Africa and in Kansas the both of you. Good luck. Kia has its problems but a good dealer can really make them smaller when work is done correctly the first time.
