Long story short: its the seatbelt hardware hitting the hard plastic door surrounds. Simply latch the seatbelts and the quiet will be stunning. Most of us rarely if ever have back seat passengers and even if you do it only takes a split second to unlatch the belt when they get in.

I have just slid the buckle up the belt to a point where it rests against the seatback bolster (midway up the backrest). That seems to keep them quiet.

there are clips to hold the belt. move the buckle up to the top, slide the belt into the clip and bring the buckle down on clip and they are quiet as church mice.
