Hi guys, I'm from Australia and have a 2000 kia sportage lwb, it appears that the Australian model got a plastic fuel tank and I am at my wits end of how to remove it, I have released all the straps holding it and removed all pipes, it has dropped a bit but can't be removed, it appears to be stuck between the front lip that rests on a cross bar and the rear torsion bar mount and the right side strap mount, so I can't move it back to get front of the lip, all the info I find only mentions the metal tank.
All this started as the guy I bought it off said fuel gauge stopped working after new fuel pump, well I found out why, he obviously didn't drop the tank at all and just jammed the pump in and bent the float arm sideways and was stuck at half, as I was able to drop the tank a bit and was able to remove pump and fix float arm but now it's impossible to refit the pump with the rubber seal and even without seal the screw cap is impossible to not cross thread, thus I figured by removing tank I could fit it all outside with space to work. Suggestion please.

Never seen one in the states with a plastic tank. I know mine you can get at the pump assy all day through the access panel. Could you get to it before you moved the tank? The metal tank has screws holding the sender assy in the tank.

I'm in Australia and all the Australian models have a plastic tank with a screw top fuel pump there isn't enough clearance to remove the fuel pump with the tank in original position.

Yeah I have cut a larger access door and am using sheet metal for a new one.
I also discovered some "genius" removed the body rubbers so my body sits closer to chassi, thus making the gap between fuel pump and body so small.
