Thanks for showing your decals. Kia dealer didn't give me those and I can't get a straight answer out of them about it.
Thanks for showing your decals. Kia dealer didn't give me those and I can't get a straight answer out of them about it.I got my update done this morning. My center screen also froze when I checked before leaving the dealership. I asked them to reset the battery, and it went away.
I also tested starting the car after unlocking with the key instead of the remote and the car started fine.
What doesn't make sense to me is if I sit in the car, lock the car with the remote and turn the key, the car would still start. Shouldn't the car be "immobilized" until it receives the unlock signal?
And here's what the window decals on driver and passenger windows look like. Kind of hard to see, especially on a tinted window.
I believe there’s a 30(?) second countdown before the starter-kill goes into effect.I got my update done this morning. My center screen also froze when I checked before leaving the dealership. I asked them to reset the battery, and it went away.

Yep, that's what it was. After 30 seconds, as soon as the key is inserted into ignition switch, the alarm goes off and the starter is disabled.I believe there’s a 30(?) second countdown before the starter-kill goes into effect.
That's ridiculous of Hyundai/Kia to do that for two reasons:Yep, that's what it was. After 30 seconds, as soon as the key is inserted into ignition switch, the alarm goes off and the starter is disabled.
I thought the alarm duration was increased from 30 seconds to a minute, but it still timed out after 30 seconds.
I heard zip, is your remote start factory? If it’s aftermarket I bet you could add a starter kill/lower cost security kit pretty easily since they’re sometimes pretty modular.Well - I received my letter a few weeks ago, but since I have remote start on my '16, they can't apply the patch due to a 'glitch' that Kia's working on. I read that supposedly it was only going to take a few weeks to come up with that someone at Kia said to a journalist. The support site is only showing my VIN as not yet having the patch installed, and not much else useful info.
So - has anyone heard or read anything about the glitch being fixed for remote start owners yet?
Thanks,
-SM2016
My remote start is the factory one.I heard zip, is your remote start factory? If it’s aftermarket I bet you could add a starter kill/lower cost security kit pretty easily since they’re sometimes pretty modular.
From what we've heard, the sticker is probably at least as effective as the firmware update.
It is easier to use "Google" for the search and skip the Vertical Scope search engine in this forum. Be sure to add "Kia forum" to whatever you are searching for and you will get a more complete list.Does anybody bother searching and reading anymore? Anyone with standard key contacted by Kia to install new...
I don't know about hot wiring, but when I tested with the key, starter kill does kick in.I hear if the doors are not open and the thief brakes a rear window and crawls through the update wont work
Supposedly though, with the patch installed, it's the unlock of the doors with a FOB that enables the car to start.I hear if the doors are not open and the thief brakes a rear window and crawls through the update wont work
