So those who had the patch applied please tell me: will the car start if you unlock it using your key instead of with the remote? If it won't isn't it removing a functionality from your vehicle, that you cannot unlock it using your key anymore?
This is a very valid concern. Now it's making me think twice about getting this update if I get the notice.

It would have to work. The engineers cannot remove opening with the key in the Fob. I have had to use it a number of times due to weak batter of such in both my Sorento's to get in and start with the fob against the button. Issues resolved replacing the battery. If you cannot get in you can be stranded somewhere.
I did a true test on my 2015 with the battery removed from the fob. Gain entry and start with the FOB on the button method. Work, so I know even if the battery is weak its going to work. Note, our vehicle have the immobilizer in Canada, hence not a patch. But I needed to know as my wife phoned me since she couldn't get in or start and I had to drive down with the other fob. Fortunate it wasn't far away.

Don't think this patch would apply to your trim level, only to L and LX with the standard key start. Keyless start is already protected, only us low end buyers that need the fix ;) Of course, still have not heard anything from Kia about this so maybe the fix isn't as simple as we think or it's not working as Hyundai/Kia thought.

Has anyone with a standard key been contacted by Kia yet to schedule the install of the new engine immobilizer security patch? I asked my dealer about it during my last oil change, and the svc. mgr. said that they're already processing them. Affected owners are supposed to receive a letter, which means then to schedule your update. Thanks, -SM2016
Yes, I got a letter from Kia about 3 weeks ago and when I brought my vehicle in for an oil change, they did thebrepair.
