hi,

i have kia carnival LS year 2000 with automatic transmission and has dual fuel (gas and petrol).
if i use gas, at random time, the air filter box blown up because of the kick back. It happened couple times, so i keep changing the box. It works fine if i use petrol.
Appreciate if someone can tell me why the problem occured.
Is it common problem with kia carnival if they have dual fuel?

Thanks,
Anak Baik

It happens on many makes and model cars that use LPG and have remote air filter box. Ask commodore owners

It is caused by a lean mixture during start up. Essentially lean mixtures burn very slowly and the mixture is still burning in a least one cylinder when the inlet valve opens and that ignites the intake charge which spontaneously combusts.

There really is no way to prevent it except turn to petrol before shutting off the engine.

Some LPG system installers use a intake system relief valve to prevent airbox damage when it happens.
