Hi all ,
The other week I finally got round to fitting my 4-reverse sensor kit. It took me more than just a few hours like others suggested, because I had to take the bumper off and drop the towbar. I also painted them first to match the bumper colour.

The prob I have is one of the centre sensors makes the system go haywire. It displays 0.3m and beeps like mad even when nothing is there. I disconnected it and the system worked reasonably okay.
So I get on the on to the Ebay bloke I bought them from and he sends me a new sensor. I tried it first by resting it on the boot floor and plugging it in...it worked fine.
So I paint and install it...........
Tried the system and its back to 0.4m......

Then I choose to plug the old sensor in and rest that on the boot floor.....it works fine..........

Any clues???????????????????????

Hmmm.....gutted to say it but I think you might be right. Especially since I offered to send the 'defective' one back to the ebayer.
I reckon I might just either hang onto it and hope he doesn't chase me. If he does, I might rip the wire out of the head and stay it got damged when I was removing it............

So the moral is, don't put reverse sensors on if you have a towball. Kinda bugs me because thats what the wife is doing all the damage with!

Can anyone this of a way to keep the ultrasonic reflection off the towbracket?

Removeable towbar?
Could have also spaced them as such they are almost in 2 pairs either side of towing bracket, towball should be out of 'view' of the sensors radar 'cone'

I wish I knew what the 'cone' of vision was before I started drilling 20mm holes in my bumper.

Whats strange is the other inside ( n/s ) one works okay and thats closer to all the twin electrics plugs.

I'm wondering whether they might be slightly more sensitive to one side and might pop out the rogue one and turn it 180°.

As for the remedy , if its a choice for a full new towbar , a new bumper or just suffering with having one sensor disconnected then its not a tough choice.

I do think the installation manuals for these sensor kits should give a warning about putting them too close to towballs.

Hmm, I'm thinking of fitting a set of these and had seen that a lot of cars space them towards the sides of the vehicle I'd presumed this was so fitting a tow bar didn't interfere with their operation.

Is it a Witter tow bar by anychance? Cos if it is you may be lucky and be able to buy the aftermarket removeable ball kit.

Oh and Ebod could I suggest a PM with an apology to Jamescibie he is rather annoyed at the comments you made about his customisations

I think its a towsure towbar.

When I get a chance , I'll post of pic of the back of the car, but in any case I set all four sensors ~29cm apart.

As for the chavved up Sedona post , I'm perfectly entitled to express an opinion.
Its unfair to make personal comments about a poster ( which I wouldn't ) but I only implied his car was like an A-Team van and I don't think thats way off the mark or anything.

I figured 99% of the people in this group own a Sedona for people carrying , towing , load lugging but not for jacking up and putting big amps in....

Hi yes you're perfectly entitled to express your opinion, but I always thought that you should never write on a forum what you wouldn't say to a persons face.

Would you say what you said to his face?

Hello Pepper, Hello Ebod,

A man of morals and a fair point made Pepper, unfortunately not always the case.

I come out with Ebod on this in so much as he is entitled to express his opinions and IMHO no apology is necessary to James

Ebod didn't verbally insult James rather held him up for ridicule but James is saying look at what I've done!.

James sent me a lovely PM which I must get around to replying to, he's young and needs to learn first and foremost he creates for himself and constructive critical observations from others however put, is better then praise although that's nice as well.

I think we both agree Pepper James's efforts are not entirely to our taste but clearly creative, I have to say those pods would annoy me, it would be like being stared at by the Navigator Eye.

James's efforts jarred Ebod's senses but if we're all honest Ebod James did something we neither have the time to do or wish we could do.

You don't need to and is he now perhasp you can show me.

James needs to get some thick hide from somewhere.

I agree mostly with what you say, insult the creation, insult the creator
and all that but Ebod didn't, unless I'm missing a thread or two

Your example of the artist is fine Pepper but you see I would---maybe.

Whistler once said to Oscar after he, ( Oscar ), had slagged a painting,

" no no my dear Oscar you can't say this is no good or that is good"
what you must say is "I don't like this or I like that but that is all".

It kinda make sence to me.

Could you try doing what clartsonly says? Try tilting it out of the way of the towbar and see if that helps.

Just fitted a new guard behind the towball and now both inner sensors don't work properly.

My tow braket can unbolt easily as its on a piece of box section.

Does anyone know if there is plug connectors for the twin electrics so I can 'quick release' the towbracket and use it only when I need to tow?

Hi ebod just as an aside where did you get your sensors from and what did you use to paint them with?

Just got a quote from the guy who's doing my towbar next week and he wanted £190 fitted for a set of 4 sensors!

Which seems a little excessive IMO (though the deal on the towbar is fantastic)

Hi Pepper,
My kit was £17 +£4 shipping off ebay, Theres a lot available , even listed if you type Kia Sedona.

Its a kit with 4 sensors , a dash display module , control module , holesaw drillbit.

Paintwise. I checked with KIA and they don't do sprays. It would cost about £10-12 quid to go to a paint specialist to get a can of matched paint mixed up from the KIA code. Then theres laquer and you'll need a plastic primer. I already had laquer and actualy had a very similar metallic red (Citroen wicked red) from my previous car, so all I bought was a £3 tin of plastic primer.

What I did was manually made 4 holes in the kit box ( with the holesaw) and temperarily mount the sensors in the box , then just applied the respective coats of paint. I'm sure a pro could nitpick about the job, but its a d_amnsight better than 4 black spots on the bumper.

They do look good, I was thinking of doing similar myself with the spraying.

I think I shall wait a while with Ebay, I'm still waiting to resolve one of the problem auctions I had re the dvd player.
