My second Ac compressor is loud and failing again at 185,000 miles. At 90,000 miles the clutch was going on the compressor and it eventually seized up which imobilized the car. I have a new compressor ready to install and would like to do it myself but am unsure of how much oil and refrigerant in the system. I can rent the dual gauges at autozone and a refrigerant vacuum.

Specs for oil and refrigerant capacities?

Also who out there as taken there borrego past 200,000 miles? Mine is 3.8 v6 lambda engine shared in the genesis.

I'm due for all new shocks, struts sway bar links and the interior is starting to show some age up front. Other then that the engine and trans seem great though so I think I'm gonna fix the car up and continue to run it till it really quits.

There is a sticker in your engine area that tells you just how much 134A and what type of oil. That is the only info I would use...

My Borrego V8 A/C compressor is getting noisy also. It's cooling fine, but, it's getting louder. I am afraid that I will need to replace mine soon also. Did you get your new compressor from a Kia source or other? Both O'Reilly and NAPA list a compressor for our Borrego's.

Two years ago compressors were hard to find for the borrego. But now they are easier I think.

Dealer ones were like 600 with king wait times but I got compressor for a Genesis which is the same as borrego 3.8 off eBay for like 250

I'm at 201k and my replacrment compressor sounds like a bucket of bolts but after a recharge the ac has been working great all summer. This genesis compressor has about 120k on it

I have the next replacement compressor in the garage but it's not going in till the thing quits.

Borrego A/C Compressor Replacement

It seems like that, just because the compressor gets noisy, doesn't necessarily mean that it is about to fail. Mine has been noisy for the last 10K miles, but, it still cools just fine. My dealer and a independent automotive A/C repair shop both recommended running it until it stops cooling. They both said the repair/replace cost would be the same because they have to replace the compressor, dryer and (probably) the expansion valve whether I fix it now or after it fails. I am just going to driving mine for a while longer.
This is the first time anything has went wrong with my Borrego since I bought it new in 2009.
