My 2020 Sportage 19,000 kilometers, When braking at slow speed in snow especially, the drivers side front wheel seems to grab and lock up when applying just a little extra pressure on brake peddle. It is alarming loud, sounds like a gear with broken teeth suddenly engaging locking the wheel and grinding as you slide. automatic reaction, remove foot from the vibrating peddle. The noise it makes sounds damaging . I took it to the dealer and was told it was the ABS and that was normal. Your opinions are much appreciated, thanks

Actually instead of letting up on it, let it do its job. What is happening is that the ABS system is pumping the brakes at a rate that you are incapable of accomplishing, and will stop the car in a shorter distance than if you took over. This has been the way the system has worked since Bosch released the first model in 1978.

I don't know how others interpret the feel and sound of ABS fully engaged, but for me the rapid pulsing does feel and sound like something grinding in the brakes. And if you have never experienced it before, it can be very concerning.
