Hi I am having the usual symtoms again I owned the 96 since new so this high /low almost stalling out issue with the IAC and egr is familiar teritory the original one dumped out years ago so I bought one off e bay the whole throttle body complete it was off a ford escort and it worked till now i passed the Ca smog test with it but now its acting up again so i will attempt to clean it out lube it to pass the smog test I failed the last one . the main question is this on all the searches i do online for the IAC for my year it has two ports that look like water ports to me the one i am using now from the escort had them I plugged them up not the main bypass that has the hose from the rubber air hose to air cleaner but two extra ones my 1.6 L did not come with them where did the go ??? i had seen one on the Kia parts depot that did not have them like my original one for 400 bucks all the rest are affordable but have those two ports at the bottom since my car never used them i capped them off how critical is this ? does it sense heat and fuction with the IAC ? if so maybe better to unplug them they dont look like vacum and even if they were i have no place to plug them into .. since i am new to the site i could not post a link to the image but a google search of 96 kia sephia IAC brings you to parts geek and that they are above the big bypass port the two curved ports on top left of IAC
sorry for that ,

well the part number MB6BF 20660 come up on kia parts and every search i did if any one has a 1.6 L 96 Kia sephia and could verify if they only have one big air port for the IAC the part number is on the IAC itself were the elec plug goes on it
the extra 2 ports out the back are for water to go through theres a temp thing there and i guess when the temp is hot it closes off something my original one did not have this.

Newer Sephias had them, like the old Escorts.

Yes those are Water ports, and yes they provide Heat to that area.

... i will attempt to clean it out lube it to pass the smog test ...
Use MAF cleaner, avoid using other kind of chemical solvents, such as carburetor cleaner, as they might damage the IAC / MAF.

Forget about "Lube" those, that's unnecessary and is Harmful to those parts.

Have you looked at the engine's back, under the intake?

Maybe there are provisions for those two Water plugs, sealed from Factory; you might consider to thread them, insert male plugs and run a small Hose Up / Down them to the intake; that could solve the Problems you're experiencing now, by using the intake that "needs" the water passage, on your engine that did Not came with it.

Kind Regards.

thanks for the replys i went to the bone yard today and there was a 96 sephia LS there with only 86K on it, t boned in the side it had a 1.8 L i seen how they routed the water ports my 1.6 has the ports but since it did not use that style IAC it has a rubber hose u shaped to tie the two water tubes together so that solved alot of my issues on replacing the iac . all i need to do is put one in and one out to each tube it looks like one goes into the intake and goes back into the block or heater core
i took the throttle body complete rubber hoses still hanging from the water ports and clipped off as many electrical connectors i can get thats what killed my car earlier the wire busted off on the distributor and it would not fire at all had to replace the connector with a mazda connector different color wires but still worked anyway the wiring is brutal i wish they would had extended the front end just a little and put the fan right in front of the engine instead of off to the side so it blows all over the wiring harness i had 100K on that car in the junk yard......

updates

I went to the junk yard and found a 96 sephia/mentor and took the throttle body and iac off along with many of the wire connector ends for transmission etc the iac was clogged up on the junk yard part so i cleaned it out changed the heater hoses at the same time it worked . i did not have any water going to the old IAC i cant remember why only the original one did not use water ports but i was in luck that the tubes were there to connect them too , i was having a big problem with this code P5010 closed throttle position malfunction i changed many of the connectors and ajusted the TPS correctly but it is in line with something else as well not just the throttle position sensor there is something that it is connected to that is the problem i used 3 TPS and checked the oms and all before installing so i know it is not the TPS itself and this is the proof .... I finally got it to run without the check engine code took it to smog CA, smog and it passed and as soon as i left the shop the check engine light came on and it started to run like crap again there is something inline with the TPS that is not working it could be a relay or that 4 wire connector on the fire wall some kind of map sensor i looked up the numbers relays tend to work and then fail if they are not working properly any ideas ?? anyone know what is in line with the TPS to give up a code P5010 other than the TPS itself ???

There is a chance that the ECU is not properly grounded and / or it is failing somehow.

I kindly suggest you to reset the codes / disconnect the Battery for a while, and see if the "running like Crap / Check engine Light" issue goes away, and comes back again.

Kind Regards.
