If you’re going to use the blue OEM filter, then this fits it perfectly. It fits the Mann W811/80 and Wix 51334 filters too.

I found there’s not enough space to get those strap or pliers type filter wrenches up through the under engine cover access hole, at least on my Soul.

 

You didn't say which motor, on the 1.6 turbo I used a 15/16 socket, perfect fit.

 

You shouldn't even need a filter wrench if the filter was installed correctly. But when I did my first change, I discovered that the gorilla at the factory (or maybe it was the dealer) really clamped that sucker on and thankfully, I did have a filter wrench on hand to deal with it. Since then, every oil change I've done the filter goes on hand-tight, plus a half turn or so.
