2023 Kia Sportage Recommendations/Complaints

Hello everyone,

I just have a few complaints or recommendations for Kia and the 2023 Sportage. I currently own the X-Line trim and maybe I am missing something in regard to the functionality of the vehicle but these are a couple things that I noticed that seem unchangeable.

1. That you have to go to the convenience settings on the infotainment system to view your oil percentage. Why is this not a thing when scrolling through the cluster? It's such a simple option to add in and even my bottom trim Chevy Equinox had it. Maybe this is an option on a higher trim, but it's hard to believe that it would take a higher trim to add that to the cluster just to be able to scroll through quick and check it. I am also aware that it will alert me, but sometimes it's nice to be able to check once you start getting below 20%.

2. The second thing is that whenever you leave the car on to go into a gas station for example, it does the beep to let you know that you left it on and walked away with your keys, but it won't let you lock the vehicle with your key or the lock button on the doors armrest. This is very annoying when it's freezing outside and you want to keep your car warm without having to shut it off, get out of the vehicle, lock it, and start it again. Not a huge problem just annoying that it's not possible to lock once you've left the vehicle.

Like I said these are things that I find a little annoying with the vehicle that you would think would be a functionality in a 2023 model year. If I am missing something and there is a way to fix these things please let me know because I can't find a way.

Also, not sure on Kia's capabilities on what they can update aside from the infotainment system in a vehicle, but it would be great addition for them to add an update to put the oil percentage on the cluster.

Per someone's response I got the carbon fiber center console and side covers over the piano black, looks great, only around $50 w Amazon, quick delivery.

What I absiolutely hate on my Hybrid is the intermittent wipers that have a mind of their own! I can sit there with a full windshield of water and the wipers don't go on! Why anyone thought they had to improve on that is beyond me. I dread driving the car when its raining!
I agree the Auto wipers (not Intermittent) have a mind of their own sometimes... just last night there were a few times I wanted them to go more often and they refused, and a few minutes later they starting going way faster and more often than was really needed. I wish they would just go back to the Manual traditional Intermittent control.

Exactly!
This is the third vehicle I've owned with auto wipers (Mazda, MINI, Kia) and all have had "fits" at one point or another when auto sensing what to do.

That's wonderful! Ugh!

Weird, I had a 2006 Jetta that had autowipers and they were amazing. Hard to believe the tech has gone backwards. Does anyone have perfectly functioning auto-wipers (I don’t have a Sportage yet).
I've had Sportage almost a week. And 90% rain of course (PNW). My work fine almost always, just a couple of times of ”so, wipe already!" or frantic wiping for a few seconds.

The one on my 2015 Miata is amazing with auto wipers, The Sportage and Cadillac SRX not so much. The SRX was so bad that I had to disable it in the menu

I wonder if it's a connection (loose or no connection) issue with the sensor. Seems to be a common issue with the assembly process

I wish, my dealer has checked it but said its working as designed! Would like to take it back when its raining and have them check it then.
I think I'll check mine when I get home, it's easy enough to access anyway

No need to wait for rain. They have a hose they can spray on it to activate the wipers.
I haven't noticed this by using CarPlay w/wireless dongle. Jumps right into Waze on the screen maybe 10-15 sec. after I get into car and continues playing my last media selection (currently XM satellite). No need to really mess with the screen at all. And can ask Siri via steering wheel button to, "Use Waze to navigate to Work". Fantastic! I also have the Star button on center console programmed to CarPlay, so can get back to that screen at any time.

I could swear that there was a setting to add the tach to at least one other mode - Smart? Try that.
There definitely is, I changed the default eco mode to show the tach. That said as noted it would be good if the screen and drive mode stayed where you left them when you turned it off.

I guess being a newbie I am missing something: all three modes eco, sport and smart do have the tach on the right side.

On my old X5 there was an option to adjust the sensitivity of auto wipers... am I guessing right that its not present here?
Thanks for sharing! Is there an option to add this functionality, a module to buy maybe? Ironically, the heavy-duty part is already there: cams and wiring, etc, so it is a software issue, like triggers for the right cams to wake up and start the feed to be recorded. Any ideas? Alternatively, there could be a double-sided smart dash cam perhaps, but its a shame to have to resort to a whole new set of cams (with no access to the much-needed angles from the existing cams) guided by a separate CPU while all of it is already in place, sans the right set of commands and triggers in the main CPU of the car itself..

At least on the upgraded display that I have you set whether the tach appears for any drive mode.

We have never had any problems with the auto-wipers. I appreciate they go on without me having to turn the knob. I just have to remember to keep the switch in the "auto" position.
I do wish the Sportage could be started in "smart" mode rather than "eco".
