2022 Kia Sorento X-Line S - Squeaking Noise in Steering Wheel

Hey all! I'm curious if anyone has had a similar issue with their 2022 Sorento (or any other KIa for that matter). I am noticing that when I drive the car for a long period of time, there's a squeaking noise in the steering wheel when I am keeping the car steady. When I fully turn the car, no noise - only when I am keeping the vehicle straight.

I took the car into the dealership last week, and they said they updated the Power Steering settings in the computer of the car, but still having some trouble. Curious to see if this has happened with anyone else, and if so what was the fix? The car is still brand new (just over 1k miles).

Thank you in advance!

Same exact thing happen on the highway last night...I swear almost pulled on shoulder to check for a critter. This vehicle has been back to the dealer 4 times for steering related issues. I had a clicking noise when turning the wheel left and right twice. They found a loose ground wire behind the airbag. Been fixed for about 2 weeks...now this crazy squeak , which can not be replicated. I will video and address it with next oil change or dealer visit... I think these vehicles are being rushed out of the factory and build quality is suffering.
There has been issue with the rubber bumper between the steering motor and the shaft..

So my Kia dealership fixed the annoying squeaking problem. They had to replace the steering column, and It's been about a week now and I've had no squeaking problems. I just know that they ran a diagnostic test when I took the car in back in mid February I believe and they found out the problem was the steering column. They had to order it cause its a special part, and when it finally came in they replaced it. It was covered by warranty so I didn't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money. I'm just happy that the squeaking is over.. so annoying..
Hi, I also have the noise on my 2019 Sorento LX. I am wondering how the warranty covers it. Can you share the detail of the warranty note?
I have same issue. Purchased car this past August. Noticed noice around late September/October. First time heard it, pulled over, looked under hood because I thought it was a baby bird nesting… very sporadic amd very annoying. Has a definitive cause been identified? Thanks.
Yes, same thing here. It drives me crazy when I do 200-300 KMs run. The dealer is aware of the issue, but can only act if I bring it in when it’s making the noise, fools. If you want you can stop on the side, and do a couple of full left right rotation back and forth, this will stop it for a while...
We have had our 2022 Sorento SX since February. Just yesterday we were out for a drive on long straight country roads. After about 40km we heard the squeaking coming from the steering column area, the car had been driving fine up until then. We decided to turn around and head for our dealers, on doing a U Turn the squeaking stopped. I will mention it to the dealer at my next service. See what they say.

Tigray Did you ever resolve this issue?
We just purchased a 2023 Sorento. Had it about a month. Started hearing the squeaking intermittently a few days ago. Thanks to all of you for posting rodent noise sounds… I truly thought something was trapped.
Anyone know if KIA has acknowledged the problem?
Fearing the ‘non reproducible’ declaration by the dealer, any suggestions on how to report it do it can be remedied?
Have there been any fixes that anyone has gotten besides replacing the steering column? I have a 2023 EX X-Line I just purchased a week ago and it only has 400 mi on it. I have a terrible squeak/squeal coming from the steering column dash area. It doesn't make a difference if I'm turning the wheel or driving straight but it's unbearable. Here is a video. You may need to turn it up a little bit to here

My dealership has determined that the "power pack" needs to be replaced which is apparently the steering column control module. They had to "emergency order" the part which means its not in stock anywhere and they are taking one off the production line. Hopefully will be delivered to the dealership on Monday 4/10/23 and put in car. They said its roughly a 2-3 hour job.

Better plan on a long day. This is when you find out that they have never done one of these before and the job turns out to be 4-5 hours.

Very well could be a long day. My car has been in their possession since 4/1 and I have a loaner from them so I'm not sitting there waiting, so if it does take them all day or longer I'll just keep putting miles on their loaner they gave me lol

The dealership was able to fix the issue. They originally tried replacing the steering column motor unit (part# 56370 P2000) which did not help. The squealing/grinding was still there. They did some more digging since they had it taken apart and found that the gears in the colomn were bone dry and not lubricated properly from the factory. They replace the entire steering column (part# 56390 R5030) and that fixed the issue.

I've had this issue. New 2023 Sorento x-line (Canada). Recorded the issue 7 times, brought to dealer. They sent request to kia for warranty repair. I'm getting all new steering column next week.
I have a 2021 Sorrento X-Line, I didn't have the squeaking you all have explained. My wheel would make a weird like course noise when turning, especially when backing out of driveway. The dealer here in Fort Worth replaced the steering column and it has fixed the issue thus far.
