2016 Sedona Cooling Fan Issue

Looking for some advice on trouble shooting an issue. My wife stated the cooling fan did not shut off when she came home from a drive. This eventually killed the battery. When I hooked up jumper cables the cooling fan started running. I got it started and took a drive. After turning it off the fan did stop running. However the fan only turns on now if the AC for the vehicle is running. No overheating occurring but I’m concerned there is an issue. Ideas?

Last August, I had a similar problem with my 2017 sedona that the fan relay was getting stuck in close/on position and the fan was running until the battery died (I checked for overheating but the coolant temp seemed fine). I replaced the fan relay #1 and it has been fine since. Just be careful pulling the fuse for the fan - I broke the case of the fuse so I had to replace that too. The funny part of this ordeal was that all local dealers I called did not have the fuse somehow nor did parts shops but I was able to order both and get it next day with Amazon for cheaper.

Several years ago my 2017's radiator fan started going full speed for no obvious reason (i.e., driving conditions didn't warrant it). When I got home and turned the car off, the fan was still running continuously and did not shut off....

I "cured" it by tapping on the fan relay located in the under hood fuse box with a screwdriver. i.e. pretty much a dead giveaway the relay contacts were stuck (as in sort-of, but not completely welded) shut. Rapping on it with a screwdriver released them.

I gently pried the plastic housing off of the aforementioned relay. Yes, the relay contacts were in bad shape, heavily pitted, and lots of carbon around them. I cleaned up the contacts with a file, reassembled the relay, put it back in and all was well. Drove it that way for quite some time.

The markings on my relay were: KIA 39160-37110 DC 12 V 50 A OMRON LLIB. So OMRON is the mfr.

Buying it from Kia seemed ridiculously expensive. I bought a new one (exact same p/n) for $4.99 1pcs New Relay OMRON 39160-37110 12V | eBay
