Any concern about driving in snowy/icy conditions?

No, we never have more than a few inches of snow here and the Niro would be no different than the FWD Sportage that has been through 5 winters.

Never stuck, never slipped.

If I had ice and feet of snow, I would use AWD.

They will be releasing a plug-in version later this year. Perhaps it will be e-awd.
I would doubt it. The battery will get much bigger, intruding on cargo space more even without a driven rear axle to put up with.

I wanted to wait until the plug in came out but figured the price difference if the same difference as the Hybrid Optima and Plug in Optima is about $10,000. That is ridiculous even in my area where electricity is less than $0.11 KWH.

The total fuel cost savings bewtwen the HYbrid and plug in is small compared to the gas and Hybrid difference.

In my area the cheapest electricity is .17 KWH so I'd save 150-250 at the most per year so it wasn't that compelling. I do like the complete silence in ev mode though.

Update:

Washed and Waxed today. I don't know what they did but the rear window and hatch door gets filthy fast. The 2012 Sportage rear stayed as clean as the rest of the body

Went onto kiatchinfo.com today to check service manual, TSB, Pitstops, tech tips.

It has changed a little since it was free a few years ago..

Interested in oil changes, air filter, center console removal, front bumper cover removal, for access to fog lights and horns, interior mirror removal, speakers, etc.

All info there.

I want to install a homelink mirror to avoid multiple garage door openers on sunvisors but the mount looked different so I have to check it out. Also Cup Holder LEDs.

Mirrors are cheap on EBAY.

Think I've finally figured most of the electronics out. Tomorrow Android Auto and UVO will complete my installation/education.

Lots of fun...........

Homelink Compass Mirror & LED bulbs..

Pulled the mirror tonight. Std. wedge mount with a set screw.

Took off the covers behind the mirror. The USA models don't have the receptacle for a Homelink Mirror that the service manual shows.

No problem. It's only a foot away from switched power to the sunroof.

Ordered a Homelink Compass mirror with wiring harness for under $50 delivered on EBAY.

It will be a 45 -60 minute installation job.

Also ordering Map light, Dome light, visor lights, cargo light and license plate light LEDs.

Homelink mirror with compass

Installed the Homelink mirror today, set up 3 garage door openers and calibrated the compass in about 45 minutes. The EBAY mirror had the wire harness with it.

Used the switched power and ground wires going to the lane departure module which is only 4" away from the mirror base.

The mirror had a tag on it saying it came from a late model Hyundai Tucson.

I am planning on doing this same upgrade. If you can take a picture, would love to see. Also, if you have any tips about the wire colors and or instructions, much appreciated.

Let me know when you get it and your wires and colors. Every mirror that I've put in has been different wire numbers and color.

I have Kia Tech repair procedures for removal of trim in the area.

Well I've had my Niro exactly one week today and I already have a screw in my tire and of course its somewhat on the sidewall. Kia dealer did plug it, but warns that it may not hold

Ouch, it won't hold................I wouldn't drive on it.

I was surprised to see Michelins on my Touring model...

Does that chrome trim window kit include the top or just the bottom? Weird the picture just displays chrome on the back upper wrap around and the bottom trim with black on the top edge.

Also does this just stick onto the rubber weatherstripping? Once it's on how would you clean or condition the rubber underneath?

I might get something like this for my Sportage EX as I always thought it looked weird with the chrome side panel and everything else is black. Plus the black weather stripping has those spots that never come off even after using back to black.

I did a test drive on a Crimson Red FE base model today. Seems pretty nice but my only concern is lack of power since I am used to my Sportage EX with 173hp and the Niro is 139hp. Maybe it didn't help that the salesperson drove with me and he looked to be about 300-350# of extra dead weight. For those that have one can they attest this will be decent enough to get onto freeways without struggling to get up to 75mph?

Anyone think there will be a turbo model of this at some point or if there would be an aftermarket turbo kit for a Niro or is that just being silly?

Test drove an EX model today.

$32,775 MSRP > 31,550 - 400 military cash back = $31,150 +tax, fess, license.

I another few months they should be $500-600 less.

I don't pick up until Tuesday.
Do you mind me asking what the tax, fees and license costs were? I got a quote for the FE model $24,060 MSRP -$1200, -$500 Kia Financing, but then tax was $1500 (rounded up), documentary fee was $599 and license and fees was $595 for a total of $25,012. Do the fees seem normal? I can't seem to remember when I bought my 2012 Sportage EX that the standard price was several thousand more than the base price after all the fees were added up.
