Hi! I have a 2014 Rio. My trunk open light remains on all the time. Resulting in a dead battery of it sits more than 2 days without starting. It has to be an easy fix but I cant figure it out. I tried to remove the trunk light to prevent battery from draining while parked. Please if anyone has had this issue or knows how to fix it, this Mom needs help!

Were you able to remove the lightbulb? Definitely do that to keep the battery from draining. I looked at my own car and I was unable to find an external switch so I think that the trunk open switch is inside the lock mechanism. When I get more time I will open my up and see how to fix it.

That is the wire that is causing your problem. You may can unhook it, and resolve the problem, however it might be unhooked and that be the problem. I don't know what is "On" or "off" (open loop, or closed). You can wire a switch to the wires for a one dollar fix or replace the latch itself for an OEM fix. there may just be crud preventing a solid connection, ect. a few possibilities all caused by improper electrical loop

The orange wire and the brown wire are the wires that give feedback to the car if the trunk is opened or closed. You can use a multimeter to check if the switch is the problem. I simply put a screw driver through the lock mechanism to close it. A used OE part is the way to go for something like this if you determine that the switch is bad.
