Just traded my 09 Rio5 in for a 13 Rio5, read through the manuals and checkpoints and such. Manual says that it is recommended to have a Kia dealer check the transaxle fluid, BUT for my own piece of mind, I must know where/if there is a dipstick. Haven't found it on my own yet, anyone else know?

I've browsed the forum for years with my old Rio, first time posting. Thanks!

There is a bolt on the top of your trans thats needs to be removed, and we (Kia dealership) put in a dipstick that we use to check the level. It's a Kia special tool.

A small favor

Hello, maybe you can help me as this is my first day on the site and I'm in a bit of a situation.

Here's the short version:

It's been a while since I've done an oil change but a friend needed one and I had the time. Unfortunately, I accidentally drained about a liter and a half of her transmission fluid (I bet my screen name makes a lot more sense now, huh?). I already went to the dealer and got the right fluid but I can't figure out how or even where to refill the thing and how to check if I'm adding the right amount. Would you know of a place where I could find the diagram I need? I'd like to just take it to the dealer but I can't even turn the car on because I might cause further damage.

Perhaps there is another thread with the information I need but I'm not very familiar with forums. Hope someone can get back to me, I would love to get my dear friend back on the road.

Thanks in advance!

You need to tell us what sort of car that you're dealing with.

Don't feel too bad; the X2 error would be to not realise that you've drained the transmission and then add 4 litres of oil to the engine. It has happened. I guess you realised that the draining fluid was too clean to be used engine oil?

I could not have chosen a more appropriate screen name haha

I'm working with a 2013 kia rio gdi. 4cyl engine with an automatic transmission.

Yeah, I was under the car and while I'm loosening the bolt I'm thinking "Why is the oil filter so far away? I'm gonna need two drip pans." Didn't realize what I was doing until I see a steady stream of dark pink fluid.

I want to bring this thread back from the dead. My kia is over 60k and I need to do a transmission service, and paying the dealer isnt going to happen. So I wanna know where I can get this Kia trans dipstick, and I need to find the filter (alldata gave me a part number, but it seems only dealers carry it) for it so I can switch the transmission to AMSOIL like everything else at my house. It probably doesnt need anything close to that fancy but I just wanna take car of the thing for my woman.

Which Amsoil ATF meets the Hyundai/Kia spec.? It it the OE Synthetic? I used that in a GM vehicle we owned that called for Dexron VI. Good stuff. Another plus would be that it costs less than half of what the Hyundai/Kia OEM SP-IV costs.

AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

This one here - according to my dealer page and application guide, thats the one. And since I pay the dealer price, it makes it a no brainer ! Plus anything from the dealer is bought in bulk cost cutting rubbish. If it doesnt make the most profit, they dont bother.

yo do know if you cheap out and do this yourself and then have a transmission issue they will more then likely deny a warranty claim .

Why do you equate doing it yourself with cheaping out? It will be a while before I need trans service but when I do, I'm not taking it to the dealer. The only thing I go to the dealer for is the 'free' inspection. Besides, as stated in other threads where the warranty was mentioned, they'd have to prove that what the owner did caused the issue in order to deny coverage.

Viscosity is what it basically boils down to. The Muti-Vehicle is a highly perfected true synthetic version of Dex3 viscosity trans fluid, while the Fuel Efficient version is a highly perfected true synthetic Dex6.

The Singature Fuel Efficient and OE Fuel Efficient difference is the Singature is the top of the top stuff. Withstands more heat, and can go 2X the length of the sever service interval of the OE. Which adds up to a good savings since the damn trans holds 7.7qts. Almost two gallons for a total fill, but the filter change doesnt have a fluid amount:

Automatic Transmission, A6GF1 Initial Fill..........Not Specified
Automatic Transmission, Total Fill
6 speed A6GF1..........7.7 quarts

I am going to shoot you a PM of a different price, I cant post it publicly or I get in trouble lol --- nevermind it says you dont accept PMs lol I will just say - at 2 gallons - its a $20 difference between the two which is negligable if you consider the benefits.

As far as "cheaping out" and "voiding my warranty" - I am outside my warranty anyway so that poos on that whole idea. And cheaping out by buying the best stuff I can for this car ill probably end up figuring out a way to fit it in the dumpster in 5-6 years seems like I am doing everything but cheaping out.

Reviving this again...

Did anybody figure out how to do the transmission fluid fill on their own? Source for the dipstick? Dealer quoted $230 for this job, which I'd rather do myself if the tools are available/reasonable.

Thanks.
