I have the MPI engine and the owners manual says the automatic transaxle fluid capacity is 7.5 Q or 7.1L.
When I drained it out I only got 2 quarts out.

So my question is do I put back the 2 quarts that came out or do I put in the full 7.5 quarts?

There are no signs of any leaks anywhere.

My wife has mentioned that once in a while the engine will start racing high revs for no apparent reason.
Thanks!

Very surprising not to have around 4 quarts coming out from the bottom drain port. Did you open the fill port at the top? If not perhaps there's a vacuum/suction lock preventing a full gravity drain.

Bottom line....if only 2 came out, and you're sure of this, then only two go back in.!

Does your transmission have a dipstick to check the level?

If it doesn't, then there should be a level check plug on the side of the case (usually at the front).

You need to check and adjust the level to make sure it is at the correct level. You should NOT be guessing.

It needs to be checked with the engine warmed up and running at idle. The fluid should be "hot".
