The factory anti-theft disarms with the key. Do you have a Kia remote starter installed or aftermarket remote start?

let me rephrase
If I use the key to open the door instead of the remote the alarm will come on, and if I go ahead and try to start the car it won't start because the alarm is on until the unlock button
on the remote is pushed.
without the remote I can't start the car.

there is nothing aftermarket on this car.

Use your spare transmitter until you buy a new battery. No design flaw I see. Battery's do die. The key unlocking the drivers door should turn the alarm off. If not, there is a switch that is attached to the lock cyl that is bad.

I can unlock the car even when the alarm as armed with the key only. No problems whatsoever.
Either something is messed up with yours or it is aftermarket alarm.

Even manual says you can use the key instead the fob.
