I have a 2007 Spectra5 automatic and have "lost" both key fobs--one was stolen in an apartment break-in, and the other was stolen when the car itself got stolen (long story). The car was recovered after the theft, but without a key or the fob. I had a new key made at a dealer and would like to get a new fob/remote, but would prefer not to pay the dealer price.

A couple of questions:
  • Is the key fob/remote for a Spectra5 the same as for a Spectra sedan, or is it different?
  • I've seen other posts on this forum about reprogramming OTHER Kia remotes/key fobs by bridging/shorting specific diagnostic-connector terminals with a wire and then doing a couple of other steps. Is this possible with a 2007 Spectra5, or is it ONLY possible by having the dealer or a qualified locksmith do it?
  • If it IS possible to do it yourself, can anyone point me in the right direction to find the procedure?
Thanks for reading. Hope someone out there can help me.
