I had the outer wheel bearing fail on me and I am in the middle of repairs. I need to know if I have to remove the knuckle to get the inside bearing out. When I removed the hub, the outer bearing fell out in pieces. I removed snap ring, but do not see how I can get the inside bearing to come out without removing the knuckle.
Bumping this old thread with intel that could be helpful. Front wheel bearing, best method is to loosen 3 bolts that go thru the flange so they are just thru the flange. then strike 3 boltheads and drive thru. Use lots of blaster and pounding first. Here is a video of similar:
Rear bearings, pull the hub, and cut raceway with cutting wheel or side grinder. You can sometimes just cut a notch into the raceway and use a chisel in the notch to drive the raceway in circles, which will eventually loosen it off the hub.
Not all Autozone stores have it. They may have to bring it in from a different store.
You can leave the knuckle on. In fact it makes it easier as the control arms keep the knuckle still.
I've removed and installed 4 front wheel bearings with this tool. Get a long breaker bar.
