Hi

My Kia Sportage has been pinging coupled with loss of power and heating. This is what i have had done via a technician:
Replaced knock sensor, still same problem
Checked cam and crank timming. Repaced cam chain and tensioner

Had a dianostic chekc done. came up with cam and crank colleration problem/ bank1 cam performance problem.

I don want to spend more money unnecessarily. I just want to know the root cause of the prob and fix.

pleae assist.

Regard
Saxen

4 cylinder or V6 - assume V6 since you mentioned bank 1. You also mentioned that you replaced the knock sensor. The V6 has 2, one for each bank.

Things to do:

Reset your ECU. Add some octane booster to your fuel (just to be sure). Inspect the wiring to the knock sensors, crank angle and cam sensors. Re-check the timing marks for crank vs both cams at TDC - it is easy to be one tooth out.

Hi thanks for your prompt reply.

My kia is a 2L petrol engine with twin overhead cam. I referred to bank 1 as the cam closest to the front. We have checked the crank and cam timming and its fine. Currently my kia is with an electronics specialist who is checking the problem with the sensors.

Just so you know. The problem started a few week ago, where it just started pinging and loosing power, thereafter we started investigating and actioning as i have descirbed in my initial post. We have checked and varified quite a few things including renewing the knock sensor and cam timming chain and tensioner but problem still exists. Intial start up, the kia engine rev good but as she warms to normal running temp and under load ( going up hill) the pinging get worse and loses power to a point where the engine wants to cut off.
