Hi,
my Sorento is missing rear differential sticker and I can’t figure out diff ratio. I need to buy used front differential and I need to know correct ratio. Is it possible to decode it from VIN number? Last 8 digits: 35163361

Attached is sheet I have for pre-facelift models. HOWEVER, use with care and double check. Facelift models list different ratios for manual and auto transmissions.

All the early Sorentos were built in the same South Korean factory and share a common VIN sequence. But the only relevant item would be the engine/transmission combo. It won't tell you the axle ratio directly. What your local dealers are (probably) telling you is they don't have access to North American build specs which is where the VIN would point you. (Or they can't be bothered to try.)

Attached is a short note I put together some time ago to cover a few more versions. I'll see if I can find a copy of the VIN decoder for early models. (It's on another forum)

I think that the best option will be jacking up the car, rotating rear wheels and counting spins made by drive shaft. I should be able to tell correct ratio after that and buy correct front diff. There’s to many options and I need to be 100% sure. One of the workshop manuals that i’ve found says that 2003, 3.5v6 with 4speed auto should have 4.666 diff.

EDIT:
Full VIN: KNDJC733935163361
It might help to check correct diff ratio in some Kia database.

You’re right. I will check by rotating rear whees to be 100% sure. Thanks for your help, I couldn’t get this information in Poland from Kia, even by contacting authorized importer of Kia.
