Hi. I own a 2002 Sportage automatic four-wheel drive and I need to replace the rear differential. Which rear diffs from other Kia will transfer into this one? I am a single mom so finances are limited but I also need a safe vehicle. Any ideas which parts will cross over to the 2002 Sportage? Thanks

Hi Gaylene

Your model sportage should have the 28 spline axle with ABS.

That configuration started from approx 1998-2004. Any model sportage in that era as long as the axle splines are 28 should fit. Ring and pinion ratio was the same across all models.
Have you considered Getting the parts to repair the diff if you have a mechanic you can trust? The parts are not that expensive.

All the best with it.

Cheers Chris

Hi Gaylene,
You should be able to pull the "pumpkin" from a wrecking yard 98 or newer sportage and put it into yours.
If your whole axle bearings and gears are gone, just pull the complete unit out of 1988 or newer and bolt it in.
These 2 ways should be the cheapest way to go.

I found a 2002 sportage 4wd that is manual transmission. Will the rear diff from the manual got into the automatic?
