I have a 2002 Kia Optima and the reverse is out. It also shifts hard at high rpms. I took it to Auto Zone and got the codes ran and it is the shift solenoids. I can't remember the codes off hand, but I was wanting some feedback on what this may cost or how much work it involves. It started one day when I rinsed off my engine and when I left the car wash, it started acting up.

Wishing kia had seamless shift transmissions

These symptoms don't sound good sir, if the shift solenoids are ok umm.. Nobody likes to hear a they need a tranny, when the time comes just replace dont rebuild.
The friction material for a auto transmission can be measured in mm, one major slip at high rpm can be devastating to the friction material
Keep us posted and good luck sir, did you check your fluid latley? If its off or on the tip of the stick you cooked it
