Thanks to my (no longer) mechanic not replacing the timing belt at the 60,000 mi tune up, my engine died and I needed to get a new one. Two months later I'm still having some problems with the new engine - which is actually used with 22,000 miles. But I've found out that the engine is from a 2001 model Rio; I have a 2002 Rio. He says this is fine as they are interchangable. However, as he has screwed me over and lied to me several times at this point, I don't believe anything he says.

Does anyone know if this is true? Can a 2001 engine be put in a 2002 Rio safely?

Thanks in advance for any advice received. I appreciate your input. I've learned a lot already by reading through previous posts.
