I own a Kia 2000 Sportage, 2wd. My rear doors won't open from the outside. You need to unlock drivers lock, while pulling up on rear lock and opening from the inside. The child safety locks are not engaged. It is the same for both rear doors. Any ideas? Please and Thank you.

Greetings,

To do this, remove the inner door panel and drop the plastic cover down to be able to reach inside the assembly - you will see an actuator rod hooked up to the outside door handle with a plastic retaining sleeve and clip.

What you need to do is follow the actuator rod down to the actual door lock mechanism, it rotates (inward?) to release the catch / open the door.

With putting some pressure on the door lock mechanism to take up the slack currently in it, re=install the plastic clip back on the actuator rod at the outside door handle.

In short, the plastic sleeve/clip holding the actuator rod has slipped, you need to take up the slack currently in the assembly by moving the door lock mechanism toward the unlock position a bit.

If above sounds more confusing than the actual procedure, it is. :)

After testing, reassemble in reverse order..

Hope this helps,
Regards,
