I’ve all but settled on a 1.6 hybrid but past Hyundai-Kia issues has me wanting to really do my due diligence. Oil burning and engine failure being the most obvious, but also overall quality - I’m not talking 1997 Kia quality, but more like the past 5 years that would actually have bearing on a new Kia.
I have read anecdotes that say the 1.6 smartstream engine family has fully resolved engine failures. Is anyone hearing about any issues with it? Or with the hybrid system? Not just Sportage but also Tucson, Santa Fe, Sorento.
I'm curious how the hybrid is in the winter, specifically with the engine/hybrid cycling when freezing and possibly not getting to operating temp on my 20 mile commute. Is there an engine block or oil heater?
the 6 spd T/C trans seems solid, especially compared to the DCT.
What about overall quality? Don’t need cheap screens or seat heating elements failing or sunroof leaking.
I’m in Canada so our warranty is only 5 year standard, and 8 year on hybrid system. Of course there are outlier problems, but I’m looking for some honest feedback about known or developing red flags.
