2009 Sportage, 6-cyl, 22K mi: I brought the car in for inspection and oil change and was told by service dept that they recommend air filter and throttle body service. I told them to go ahead with both.

My Pontiac G6 needed throttle body cleaning at around the same mileage (mechanic said it was dirty). In checking owner manual maintenance schedule for Sportage, t-b service is not listed, so it's a dealer recommended service. Anyway, they did both the af and t-b cleaning for $89.99.

Anyone have a similar experience or opinion on the service recommendation...

It depends on what sort of road conditions you are driving in, but if you are using a good airfilter and good fuels, the milage you have done seems low for the car to require the throttle body to require cleaning. My family have had cars and 4wds go 100000km or more in harsh conditions and not need throttle body cleaning. I suppose though you just have to trust your dealer on the need these type of things unless you check them out yourself.
