Sorry in advance for the long post....
In my '09 v6 2wd Kia Borrego I had been having an issue with getting it to go into gear when I moved the shifter into drive.* I would have to move it back to neutral and then pop it into drive more forcefully for it to engage first gear.* This continued for 2 weeks or so and I figured something might have fallen into the shifter area and was blocking it from going into gear.* Flash forward to last night.....started it up and put it into reverse and it went into gear with much more of "thunk" than usual and when I moved it to drive it moved forward but very sluggishly so I did the normal and tried neutral and popping it back into drive and same results.* After messing with it a while I realized that it is stuck in 4th gear and will only shift into reverse and 4th gear.* Even from a dead stop it's trying to take off in 4th....kickdown does not work at all at speed and the manual shift mode shows 4th gear and does not change gears when moved.** The transmission doesnt slip other than feeling like when I try to take off in 4th gear.* I believe it has gone into limp mode.

Based on my research at 2am this morning I suspect that it is a transaxle range switch.* This switch has been mentioned several times when reading posts from other people with the same symptoms.*

Ok so i havent been able to check that sensor but I did go out and start it up and it's back to doing what it was previously. Shifts through all gears fine, just have to pop it into drive. One thing i noticed that i havent paid attention to preciously is when its in reverse and then ease it into neutral the tranny stays in reverse but the shifter wont go back into reverse. It's some strange symtoms, but I'm more convinced than ever that its that sensor rather than a bad tranny. Im not going to just let it be but at least its driveable now till I can make sure what the issue is and fix it.
