Having no experience with FWD cars and changing a manual tranny (specifically in a Kia), I'm not sure what else to check for. Can you tell what it is hung up on, or does it just not budge at all?
My thought would be it is binding on the throwout bearing if absolutely everything else is disconnected.

yes it is binding to the throwout bearing. so you need to take out the pull lever where the slave cylinder is connected to out so it could release the bearing free for the tranny to come out. there should be a 14mm bolt holding the lever down. I ran into the same problem the other day ago too. They have pull type clutch which it connects directly to the pressure plate. Make sure to reinstall it right though. lol
