The factory alarm system seems to have lost it's mind. It will randomly decided to act like the car is being broken into, even when locked and unlocked with the keyfob, and will not respond to the reset instructions in the manual. Pulling the fuse no longer works either. I can pull it for an hour or more, put it back and the alarm will still act like it needs to be reset.

I've tried:
Pulling the fuse for over an hour
Replacing the battery in the fob (that was my first thought)
Making sure all of the doors, hatch and window and hood are shut tightly

The next thing on the list is disconnecting the negative side of the battery.

If that doesn't work, what can I try next? I'm really close to digging up the wiring diagram for the alarm and ignition, cutting the alarm out and reconnecting the ignition!

Disconnecting the battery overnight didn't do a bit of good. I have no clue what the next step is. I do know I don't want to take it to the dealership and I've got to get it fixed before it will pass inspection by the end of the month.

You need to stop guessing and get a scanner on it, check to see what the security module is not happy with..

Disconnecting the battery will not satisfy it..

Thanks for replying. I appreciate the help. Once I've discovered what the security module isn't happy with what are the next steps to reset it and are they something I can do myself?

No silver bullet, all depends on the fault, might be an input, output, power/ground or even the comms circuit..

That is why it requires diagnosis..

This is beginning to sound like a shop job. There are a lot of things I can do myself but I also know my limits. :(
