My neighbors car has a very rough idle when cold, that goes away when warmed up. To the point of stalling.

OBD2 error codes:
P1166
P0507
P0325
P0101

I found this info on the codes:

P0101 Mass Air Flow or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance problem.
P0325 Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0507 Idle Air Control System Malfunction - RPM Higher than expected.

P1166
"That codes implies that there's a lean condition.
Possible causes:
1) Vacuum leaks.
2) Leaking PCV valve.
3) Leaking EGR.
4) Dirty or bad MAF
5) Intake pipe between MAF and TB leak.
6) Low fuel pressure - fuel filter plugged - dirty injectors

The MAF is very delicate, and should only be cleaned by spraying on
something like non-residue electrics cleaner - don't touch it with anything."

P1166 diagnostic procedure:
justanswer.com/kia/6pp5j-kia-rio-code-p1166-part.html
This implies I should fix other codes first.

I have not done anything yet. What should I start with and do you know of any good DIY for your suggestions as I am new to this car.

Cheers,
Thanks ahead of time.

I will try to clean the MAF, I have heard conflicting opinions, CAN I USE CARB CLEANER on MAF?

Cheers,

Hi Dani,

NO - Purchase some CRC-Brand MAF cleaner, or ask the counter person for sensor-safe MAF cleaner..

*Without knowing (which) brand of 'Carb Cleaner' in question, it may contain solvents which can damage the MAF sensor element*,

Treat the MAF as you would any other delicate electronic equipment you own on removal/handling/reinstall, -DO NOT touch the MAF sensor element inside-, just spray the sensor & inside clean, let dry, and repeat..

Reinstall after cleaning off / drying 2x.

You could have a bad or dirty idle air control valve... Sure caused me a lot of problems in my 04....

Because you have the specific code
"P0507 Idle Air Control System Malfunction - RPM Higher than expected."
I'd go along with Kevster and say clean the IAC...
GottaCruse has some very valid points also. (especially about what to use on a MAF and how fragile it is).
With it being an 03 it probably has some higher mileage on it and it's been sucking in some dirt and oil based stuff. Cleaning both should really help.
Keep us posted...
