Hey guys, am new here, I own a 2002 rio, the engine has died as a result of severe piston scoring, bent valves and a big end bearing going. As I really can't be bothered doing that work just to have it drivable till it runs out of rego, I am thinking of replacing with a different motor, give it a bit better performance. I was thinking of something like an nc mx5 engine (04> miata) or a Honda motor, I've heard of people doing the bp swap, but not been able to find many that have done it. Can anyone help me out or tell me what engines will fit with minor mods? Thanks heaps in advance

I had to replace my engine last summer due to my timing belt blowing. I replaced it with anyother stock OEM '02 Rio engine from a junkyard. With that said, keep in mind that the engine in the first generation rio is one of the smallest four cylinders out there. and the engine bay is a TIGHT fit. I MEAN IT IS TIGHT! so just take that into account before purchasing another engine you don't know will fit.
