Hi everyone,

can anyone tell me how to know the difference between these two engines sohc and dohc, both 1.5l? It's '02 Rio for European market with 72kw-98hp.

The only thing that i've found is the picture in cars manual by which I think that dohc engine has the oil cap on left side of the engines head. I want to know for sure which engine is in car.

A DOHC will have a "Mickey Mouse" ear profile on the top of the head by the timing belt.
The SOHC will have only one "ear" centered.

Almost everyone in the world knows the profile of Mickey Mouse...That's why I used it :).
The belt or the cams make up the profile.
No double cams ...it's a SOHC.

Cams or the plastic belt cover on some DOHCs have the outline of Mickey's ears.
