my 02 just had a complete engine rebuild all went fine except now the auto trans has a hardshift into drive and reverse. nothing in the trans was touched on the rebuild. took trans shop they checked linkage and fluids and all were ok. fluid was clean. checked ujoints. all appeared ok.
so what could it be before rebuild shifted ok. any help appreciated.

Did the trans shop check out the shift lever itself to see if there was anything messing with the lever movement?

Was the engine pulled to do the rebuild (separated from transmission)?... Philip
