  2. 1997 kia sport 4x4 - Fuel pump wont run

Weird, I can't even hear my fuel pump. You should check some electrical things. It sounds like somethings not matching up. The key turns on, activates the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump runs. Sounds like it's not getting the proper voltage, or it's sucking up dirt, slows down and quits.
  3. idle problem while moving in neutral

This is a horrible website. The user interface is 50% useless.

  5. idle problem while moving in neutral

Cheap electronics replacement parts can really screw you up. Been there done that. Bought a cheap IAC valve online then spent months, or more looking everywhere else for the problem. Then one day I checked it with an ohm meter. Dang thing never worked right from the start. Pep boys has Bosche...
  6. 1996 Kia Sportage Fast Idle Issue

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
My fuel trims: #1 no higher than 3 above and below. #2 was at -2.3, with the wrong sensor. I have the right sensor to put in. 10 +/- would be ridiculous.
  7. 1996 Kia Sportage Fast Idle Issue

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
Well whomever had this car was abusive. I picked it up cheap, and after much diagnosis finally went after the Timing Belt, and low and behold it was just loose enough to cause a problem, but not shred. It was suppose to be at 3/10s of an inch play. They had left it at about Close to half an inch.
  8. Cat or Sensor, heres one for ya!

I've been getting a PO0422 code for about 4 years now (catalyst below threshold). I finally got rid of that high idle problem. Now I have a PO0141 code: sensor 2 low voltage. Hey that's OK, because I know I bought a cheap inferior sensor.
  9. 1996 Kia Sportage Fast Idle Issue

The slack ends when the butterfly starts pulling on the cable.
  10. 1996 Kia Sportage Fast Idle Issue

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
I've used an ohm meter, volt meter, and an OBD2 scanner on this engine for 4 yrs, and no the butterfly is not closed, but then again in theory if it was tha IAC would compensate due to having it's own port. With 4 yrs of diagnosising this engine, and another 48 of studying emissions and...
  11. 1996 Kia Sportage Fast Idle Issue

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
did hook up an OBD11 scanner, and drop the idle down. It was at 12.2 %. The lowest it would go was 11.4% without the screw touching the tab. I brought it up to11.8%, However there was play in the throttle pedal, but it's only noticeable when driving, which I found odd. Suprisingly the engine...

  13. idle problem while moving in neutral

I replaced the cam sensor, and it got worse. It only did it with the AC on. The crank sensor tells the computer how fast the engine is running so that's next. Then the chassis speed sensor. Of course though the obvious is to do a thorough search for a vacuum leak.
  14. chassis acceleration sensor

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
It's on the frame between the oil pump and the fuel filter. It tells the computer if your going uphill or downhill. The computer can then turn fuel off going downhill, and advance time going uphill and/or other adjustments. I think mines no good since its has a high idle going down hill with...
  15. Downstream o2 sensor heater resistance 98 kia sportage

    1G (1993 - 2002) Sportage
The service/repair manual says 5 ohms. The cat will set a code at only 5 percent blockage. Pour some laquer thinner in the upper sensor hole to clean the pre cat heater. You can also spray sea foam and let it hot soak for 15 minutes too. If the code goes away you will know it was the cat setting...
  16. OBDii Diagnostics with SCANNER

    Do it Yourself
You can download Master Scanner for free to be used on a PC, and it says tablet too. Then buy the USB cable on Amazon for $25 to $35. It has a bit more than a scanner. I have an OB11 scanner I paid more than for. D'oh

Update: the previous owner put 70s on and the speedometer is off. Stick with 75s, and going from 205 to 215, 225 will be hardly noticeable in width. We're talking millimeters here.
  20. Clogged Exhaust/Catalytic Converter?

I know what he meant. Test the pressure on both. If the downstream has less pressure than the upstream it has a clog.
