  1. 2017 Sorento Wants to Stop

    2016+ Sorento
You would NOT want to even CONSIDER attempting to tow 25 miles with that tow hook anyway ... for a WHOLE LOT of reasons. It's more for getting you (or better, someone else) back on the road than taking you anywhere. You could tow someone else if their vehicle permitted it, but you would not...
  2. Kia Sorento 2016 undercover to replace

    2016+ Sorento
Apart from a junk yard, that's as good a price as you're likely to find. Most run around $193.
  3. 2019 Sorento - Reliability - Fair Price?

    2016+ Sorento
My BSW lights up the little cars in the corner of the side mirrors before I even touch the turn signal. So "only works" is relative, I guess.
  4. Any info on 2020s?

    2016+ Sorento
The specs and pics for the 2020 are out there in a lot of places, and you've already discovered them on the Kia site. But there aren't any to physically see yet at dealerships (at least not anywhere around here), if that's what you're asking. Could be the demand for the Telluride has them...
  5. Thermostat housing replacement repair service directions

    2016+ Sorento
Just curious - where are you (generally) in Colorado? Have you actually identified the thermostat housing area as a leak situation for coolant? If you're still sorting out the actual leak location, recall this from the above post: As a general statement, if you've got a potential fluid leak...
  6. Thermostat housing replacement repair service directions

    2016+ Sorento
    1. Are there freeze plugs on the driver side of the front-most head? I'm curious if a freeze plug in the head could be leaking causing this. Very likely to be located there, yes. I'd have to take a look to be 100%. It's a normal location for them. As a general statement, if you've got a...
  7. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
Not designed for a tow truck. They'd more than likely be grabbing from the front, and only winching as needed to load it onto a flat bed. This loop is designed for the occasional light "pull 'em out of a ditch" situation. For that, it works well enough if there's some decent traction available.
  8. replaced HID headlights - now getting headlight warning

    2016+ Sorento
I'm with you, elcam84. My '16 HIDs work just fine. I did, last weekend, rent a Hyundai Tucson with the standard lights - which appear to be the same design as the Santa Fe. If the non-HID Sorento lights are anything similar, I do see the reason for complaint. The cut-off didn't seem any...
  9. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
I can't believe we're still having a discussion about the utility of the hook. Let's at least put that part to rest. First, this can't be used properly for a tie down point. The geometry is all wrong. Further, it would need to be there for all trim levels. Second, Hyundai and Kia even...
  10. Replacing SXL cube foggies to EX style

    2016+ Sorento
You wouldn't be street legal at night with fogs running independently of the low beams. That's why you don't see factory wiring that works that way. Europe allows for just the marker lights, but NAM requires the low beams to be on.
  11. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
Interesting. I actually had to use mine on my Santa Fe (that I had just before this Sorento). I didn't spot that one, but it looks like this >> 091470X000
  12. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
Double check your rear bumper area for the little rectangular 'cover', Jaycob. Even if the hook (a giant eye bolt, actually) is missing, the cover should still be there with the threaded portion behind it.
  13. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
    That's it!
  14. Blown 3.3L Engine

    2016+ Sorento
I can post the link for you >> http://www.classlawdc.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/4-16-2018-Filed-Class-Action-Complaint-N.D.-Illinois.pdf though a simpler summary can be found here >> https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2018/hyundai-engine-oil-sludge.shtml At over 100K, though, I'm not sure...
  15. Acceleration lag?

    2016+ Sorento
Yeah, that was me, and yes, even after taking your foot off the brake, you still get a delay before the throttle is recognized. Just when you're going for maximum 'launch' (perhaps taking advantage of a fairly small hole in the traffic), you get maximum nothing -- not fun! Many of us became...
  16. 2016 Sorento rear liftgate latch wont engage (manual)

    2016+ Sorento
Adjustment 1. Inspect tailgate and body edges are parallel. 2. After loosening tailgate hinge (A) mounting bolt, adjust tailgate by moving up, down, righthand or lefthand, Fig. 3. 3. Adjust tailgate height by turning tailgate over slam bumpers (B)...
  17. Added sub and amp to 2017 Sorento SX

    2016+ Sorento
Was wondering where you decided to run the power - in this case, the 8ga wire.
  18. Costco Gas lower gas economy?

    2016+ Sorento
So that we're all clear in the future about ethanol and mileage... Ethanol provides only about 70% of the bang per unit volume (in BTU) vs. the base gasoline component of the fuel. So if you're running a true E10, you get (.90 * 100) + (.10 * 70) = 97% energy density (bang per gallon) with E10...
  19. Added sub and amp to 2017 Sorento SX

    2016+ Sorento
1400W. Let's see, that would be roughly 100A at 13.8V. What are you doing for an alternator? Yeah, always have to take those power ratings with a grain of salt. More to the point, how did the power routing work out for these (Novakia and XAOS) installations?
  20. no tow hooks ?

    2016+ Sorento
Check section 6 of your manual, in the What to do in an emergency / Towing section, specifically, "Removable towing hook (if equipped)". I'm pretty sure your SX will have one, as does my SXL. If not, or it gets misplaced, you can get one from Kia. Look in the foam that holds your jack. The...
