  1. 05 Kia Optima Driver door won't open

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
Short answer is there is no way to get the door open without destroying something. Best thing to do is cut a hole in the door panel large enough to get your hand and arm in at the top rear so you can reach in and manually pull the rod that opens the latch. You will have to replace the door...
  2. repair manual

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
You should be able to use the manual, but this link has the shop procedures for your car. http://www.kiatechinfo.com/
  3. Rear wheel bearings and hubs

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
With sealed bearings I recommend taking it to a mechanic. Getting the old bearings out is not a big deal, but pressing the new bearing in is a big deal. If you do it wrong, you can ruin the bearing without knowing it and end up replacing it again (courtesy of a bad personnal experience!).
  4. Does your Optima tend to drift to the right?

    3G (2006.5+) Magentis & Optima
This seems to be a "class" issue for both the 2G and 3G Optimas. My marginally informed opinion is that it is a result of design trade offs. Basically, front end geometry design is a compromise/balancing act between stability and handling. At one end think 1977 Oldsmobile...very stable...
  5. stuborn stereo

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
Do a search of this forum. There are several threads that talk about stereo change outs.
  6. Strut bar

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
It will not "SOLVE" the handling issues, but it will help. The only experience I have with KFX was them never answering any of my emails asking for information on their products (hence me never buying anything from them). Reading posts from others here seems to indicate KFX products are...
  7. fuel milage on an optima

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
You should change the plugs and then recheck your mileage. If changing the plugs does not have a dramatic effect then have something more serious going on. With no more information, I would check all your hoses to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, and replace your PCV valve.
  8. starting problems

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
Very hard to diagnose with the limited info provided. I would start with a fuel filter. Other than that, start a log of when it happens to see if there is a common thread (cold temp, warm start, right after a fill up, etc...).
  9. G3 annoying front suspension noise

    3G (2006.5+) Magentis & Optima
You should check your tire pressure at least every month (hopefully more often). Changing temperatures have a pretty big effect on tire pressure, so seasonal changes can cause the problems you are experiencing. A 30 degree temperature change will cause about a 10% change in your pressure...
  10. 2002 Optima vibration/ slight knock while idling

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
Knocking can be caused by a variety of issues, but the most common is your gas and or injectors. Try running a can of "dry gas" or injector cleaner next time you fill up and see if that improves the situation (a cheap first step). Other things to consider is the quality of your spark. Did you...
  11. Radio stays on

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
Try "resetting" the radio. You have to pull the connector from the back to completely remove power to it. My radio/CD was acting weird and this fixed it. If I did NOT have a CD in, sometimes the radio would quit and the display would show "CD 1". Pushing the AM/FM button would switch it back...
  12. On-board diagnostics for Magentis 2.4L

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
Basic suggestions for fuel mileage: - make sure tires are inflated properly - change spark plugs at recommended service interval - replace plug wires if they are worn/cracked - replace air filter (lots of discussion about K&N filters, but I am a believer) - ease up on the accelerator
  13. 30K service cost...?

    3G (2006.5+) Magentis & Optima
This all points to 2 things: 1) Have everyone (especially the dealer) quote you the work ahead of time and tell them to call you before they perform any work other than what they quoted. 2) If you find a competent mechanic that you can truly trust, you are a very lucky person.
  14. Plugs and wires

    1G/2G (2001-2006) Magentis & Optima
Not sure if the Hamonic Balancer is an issue on the V6 like it is on the I4. Had I known when I replaced my Tbelt at 60k I would have replaced the balancer too. Now, at idle, the engine shakes enough to make my steering wheel vibrate. More of an anoyance than an issue, but easy to fix when...
  15. my Optima story

    Kia Magentis & Optima Forum
Sorry to hear about your continued troubles. I had a similar issue with my 04 2.4L chewing up belts (just the "outer" one). It started with a squeak in the belt. The mechanic I took it to said "I have seen this a lot on Optima's" and tightened it up to stop the squeak. A few weeks later I am...
