2015 Soul idles rough when brake applied

I donít really understand it, but our 2015 Soul will begin to idle ďroughĒ when we apply the brake. Putting it in neutral or park makes it go away. Turning off the headlights seems to help a little bit. Itís almost as if having the break lights on causes too big a load on the engine due to the alternator. Does this make any sense to any one?

I would into a vacuum leak as a possible cause as your brake booster works off of vacuum check your lines for leakage as it could be a cause of your rough idle when applying your brakes.

Iíll check the line, but how does a vacuum leak get affected by turning the headlights off? And wouldnít a vacuum leak affecting the break booster causes us trouble with braking?

Three things I'd look at, vacuum leak, the check valve in the vacuum line to the brake booster, and the Idle Speed Control valve (ISC / IAC).

If the ISC / IAC is not working, the idle speed will not be automatically adjusted when loads change, such as the lights or AC.

By any chance, do you have a source that shows where the Idle Speed Control valve (ISC / IAC) is on a 2015 Soul? I canít find it in any diagram, or even find a replacement from the parts places.

That seems like the most likely candidate Iíve seen so far, since itís load-related. And it ideal fine when the lights are off, etc.

If the 2015 Soul is your vehicle, please update your user profile.

At around the age of your vehicle Kia and others, moved to "drive by wire" throttles, and these eliminate the need for an ISC/IAC.

If the vacuum leaks and the brake booster vacuum line check valve are ruled out, and you don't have an ISC, then you'll need to get a scanner that can display the throttle demand and watch if its reacting correctly to idle load changes and sending position demand signals to the throttle.

It isn't my vehicle. And what difference does that make?

It must not have an ISC, then, so I can't seem to find it anywhere. And it isn't throwing a code about it, either, so maybe that isn't it.

IF this is a GDI type motor(I'm not certain) It could have poorly spraying injector(s) and need a good fuel additive treatment. My next thought would be a "dirty" (carboned up) throttle bore and butterfly plate, that a good spray cleaning with appropriate fluid would help.
