Picanto GS Clutch issues :(

Hello Ladies and Gents

I love my little Picanto, but she is having a right mare at the moment!!

So Wednesday 20th December - Clutch Cable snaps. (Waiting for RAC for 4 hours in Tesco in the middle of the night, but THAT's a story for another day!)

Friday 22nd December - RAC puts on a temporary repair. This breaks before I get to the end of the road. Call the man back and he comes to fix it again and follows me to Garage.
Garage fixes it, pops on a new clutch cable that day. Jobs a good'un.
Queue Chris Rea 'Driving home for Christmas' and get ready to see the famalam
Aware the clutch was a bit stiff and a bit squeaky, but hey ho, it's new. I get all the way from Sheffield to Wolves and manage to avoid all the traffic.

Saturday 23rd December - Clutch cable goes again - right outside my uncles house, thankfully. Call out the RAC again. (getting my moneys worth!) (Garage who 'fixed' it agreed to refund is I showed them the broken clutch cable.)
RAC man says that a bit of metal has slipped. Don't know why, but essentially, the clutch cable is rubbing against the bit of metal and snapping, so the hole needs to be made bigger. Sounds easy. But everywhere is closed for Christmas.

Wednesday 3rd December - Finally the garages are open again and somewhere that actually deals with clutches. Say I need a new clutch. The whole shabang. It'll take a week. (another week with the family - kill me now)

Anyway, I get my car back today - (Thursday 11th December) - Dad kindly drove it from Wolves back to Sheffield for me. Take it for a spin and my clutch is squeaking. This worries me, because it was squeaking after the first time I got it replaced.
I check to see if the cable is rubbing the metal again, and I see that a little bit of metal had been cut away - I mean, the tiniest dent at the top of the hole that the cable fits quite snugly into. Despite that, the cable is certainly rubbing against the metal.

So I need a bit of advice. Is this normal for a new clutch & clutch cable? Do I need a second opinion? Should I take it back to the Garage in Wolves? Is there anything I can put around the clutch cable to stop it getting sliced again - at least temporarily!

That's quite a time shift between the US and the UK.

Clearly those that have worked on your car are poorly qualified, and it might have cost you less if you'd gone to the dealership, who's labour and parts come with a warranty.

Hi , I’m new to the forum but I had a 2004 picanto LX that had the same problem. snapped two day after buying it after being told it had been replaced, put in a garage and cable replaced again, only to snap next day, decided to fix it myself so bought a cable (£60 !) and fitted it, tried and was still graunching so reversed the bulkhead plate and hey presto worked perfectly!
It turned out that the plate that bolts to the bulkhead where the cable enters the car was fitted upside down, if you look down at it and the cable sleeve appears to be pointing upward, it’s wrong, it should be pointing down, it’s difficult to tell but if you have a grating sound turn it around and try it!
