Niro problem

My daughter's Niro was in for service and a recall a few months ago. Ever since the work, the mileage and gasoline usage report is way off. For example, she used to routinely get mid 50s mpg and now it's averaging around 43 mpg. The dealer keeps telling her there's nothing wrong. The mileage computer claims driving one mile she used as much fuel as driving 3 miles!

Has anyone else had this problem? The dealer is not willing to dig any deeper. Should I kick this "upstairs" to Kia regional?

It's VERY frustrating! As a happy Sorrento owner (and my daughter a happy Niro owner) I expect better from a dealer.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

What's the mileage when calculated manually? Is the air pressure in the tires at spec?

I think the dealers do a software update that adjusts mpg calculations when you take it in for service.

On my Sedona, the trip computer used to report 27-28 hwy mpg while running 87-octane, but only 24-25 mpg on 93.

After getting an oil change at the dealer, it suddenly started reporting almost identical numbers whether on 87 or 93 - usually 24-26 hwy mpg.

I confess I didn't calculate it manually, but I suspect the actual mileage was always in the 24-26 range and the computer was just overestimating the mileage on 87. Maybe customers complained that actual mileage didn't match trip computer mileage so they made adjustments to the trip computer.

Are you sure it wasn't previously reporting mpg in imperial (UK) gallons?

43mpg (US) is equivalent to 53.75mpg (imperial).

When I took my Niro in for the ECU update, the exact same thing happened to me. My Mileage dropped from 50 on average to 42. I drive it mostly to and from work and that is 95% freeway, so with my understanding of how the EPA computed fuel economy works, I am getting about what you would expect in the real world.
