Shocks

I know this was an old topic, but has anyone found any after market shocks that will make this a smoother ride. I have an 09 EX.

I was looking as well and haven't found any as of yet. No market for really any aftermarket with the Borrego.

I too am looking for aftermarket shocks for a newly purchased Borrego V6 4wd. Rear shocks are bad and Kia America parts state they have one of the two different shocks on backordered from Kia in korea.
Can you believe all the shocks are different from one another. I have seen a Russian web entry has used Koni heavy truck raid. I called Koni and they had no information. I read another web entry that used Rancho 9000xl shocks, but once again no shocks available from Rancho when I called them. I even called Auto7, a Hyundai, Kia, and
Daewoo importer specialist who stated Kia has not released the shock specifications yet. I am thinking of finding a auto repair station to remove all four shocks and measure the dimensions. I hope we can match them up soon. I don't want to wear out my new Michelin tires.

There's an existing thread on shocks and one member listed the shock specs. I don't know if they are correct or how he got them. I don't need shocks yet, but when the time comes, I would like to get something that gives a softer ride not to mention the high price tag on the factory shocks.

If you have a V8 Borrego, you are not going to get a "soft" ride. Yes, you might find an aftermarket shock absorber that will fit your Borrego, but, the V8 Borrego was designed to tow/haul 7500#. The OE shocks are matched to those (heavy) spring rates in order to safely tow that much weight. If you replace the OE shocks with softer shocks you are compromising the handling of the vehicle. Remember, shocks/springs are matched components.
That being said, many here are reporting that replacing the Hankooks with another brand helps the ride considerably.

Shock update
Hay All, it has been 55 days now since I started ordering Kia shock replacement parts. I finally should have all the parts next week. My mechanic is not impressed with Kia service. After waiting weeks for all four shocks, they came in but only the shocks. No bolts, nuts, bushings. He told me Kia makes you buy every little part separately. So add another $200 in parts. In the meantime, I have contacted Rancho a division of Monroe shocks. They have many parts for the 2005-2012 Nissan Pathfinder (even a lift kit) which we all know is very similar in size weight and specs to the Borrego. I offered my Borrego for a test mule along with my soon to be replaced old shocks and parts for examination. I am doughtful because on the form I provided a link to below, the participant must live in Southern California. Anyone interested in some new parts for participation, I bet you could work it out with Rancho. I wish you luck.
IMHO, this is going to be the only way the Borrego will get any after market shocks. I could go for some Rancho RS9000xl shocks (9 way adjustable) or a lift to fit 33" tires on my Borrego. Oh well!! California Dreaming............

Shock update.
My shocks have been replaced for a week now. The ride has changed for the better. While my 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 rides way smoother on these Wisconsin roads which are in poor condition. The Borrego no longer has the very harsh ride it did before the shock were replaced. My Borrego V6 EX must have the stiffer V8 springs in it others on this website have talked about. I test drove 2 LX Borregos before finding my V6 EX. The suspension in those SUV's were way more compliant then my V6 EX. A Big "oops" on my part. I did not know the roads around the dealership where I purchased my EX.

The other problem I have is with Kia and their ridiculous parts prices and practice. What makes things even more insulting is every nut, washer, bushing, bump stop, and other part costs extra. Most other shocks have most of these parts included when purchased at prices equal to or less then the following shock prices. The 4 shocks were $570 after 20% discount. Can you believe the dealer hit my mechanic up for an additional $240 for the extras. My mechanic was so pissed with the Kia way and the parts guys at the dealer. He personally drove to the dealership. He stated never in his 30 years has he ever had a company (manufacturer) charge for every part like this. While Kia's cars have improved, he still thinks Kia's are not worth buying compared to other manufacturer's quality standards.
