Just bought 09 Borrego with 9,000 miles (dealer use only). USB port does not work. Even if the stereo does not read the ipod or recognize it, the USB should still be able to charge the ipod. It did not charge. Have tried multiple ipods, multiple chords and no luck. Either get a Error Reading message or a no data message.

I'd be ok with using the AUX as it works fine. The thing is, it plainly says ipod by the usb slot so it should work and it should charge the ipod.

USB sticks and MP3 files

it is very important that you format the memory device with FAT 16 or 32. If it has EVER been a NTFS format the unit will not read the device.

If you have Windows Vista or 7 the default is NTFS so be careful. I have about a dozen drives full of MP3's and some read and some dont based on what I posted above. If I can find a low level formatting utility I will try to 'undo' the NTFS and re-format to FAT.

This is all spelled out in the NAV user manual page 29 ish.....

Hi,

I have bought 3 usbs and tried them in my Kia and at no point does the system recognies the USB. I tried my galaxy s in the same slot and the system started to charge it, so I am assuming that the USB slot works. Is there a specific application that I need to use to get the MP3 on my USB to work

Thanks

reformat the stick

You have to format the new usb stick in FAT or FAT32 format prior to copying your music files over. It will read both MP3 and WMA music files.

Prior to copying the files onto your usb drive, open up windows explorer and right click on the device drive. A tool menu that includes format drops down. Click on this, then click on the drop down file system and select (FAT32). Do a full format. Then you can copy the music files over (MP3 or WMA). Good luck.

When I try to hit Format

on my USB Flash Drive I receive a message that says: you do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation. I tried 2 different drives with the same message. How to get around this?

Thanks
Steve

It sounds like you are using a computer that you do not have administrator rights to. Try a computer that you do have administrator rights to.

I just bought a 4GB "Relay" USB drive at Staples that is only about 3/16" longer than the metal portion of the USB connector itself. With it inserted in in the socket I can close the little "door" over the socket. No worries about having the USB stick sticking up out of the console and possibly getting broken off or damaging the socket. 4GB is enough space to store a copy of just about every piece of music I own. I have the folders organized by artist and then sub folders for each album. Works PERFECT!
