Now that it's getting pretty cold out I'm going to give it a go and install a remote starter, give me a week or two to get through my other installs and I'll let you know what happens.
I have two by-pass modules that I can use, one is by Compustar "Blade" and the other is Fortin CanSL2. Neither mentions anything about what you're describing. Then again it's been tough finding an oil filter for this thing..
Please keep us posted with updates. I've physically installed remote starters on every vehicle I've owned in the past but not quite ready to attempt this one until all the bugs are worked out.

I talked with the installer whom I've choosen to put this unit into my vehicle today and he's informed me that they now have a unit installed into a Borrego with the keyless start for the past couple of weeks and are awaiting results before releasing to the general public. This has built some confidence in knowing that I may have found an installer who will put a remote start in with more than profit in mind. Hopefully I can have it put in before the new year. Just thought I'd keep everyone updated.

Curious as to what the latest is on the remote start situation on the Kia Borrego? I have an 09 limited, and want to cool down the car from afar. Any more recent information?

Here's a link to some modules that will work with our Borregos;
iDatalink - Product Search Results

Compustar or Nustart being the best choice for a starter or alarm.

Also soon to be available;

Remote Start and Security | Smartphone Control | GPS Tracking | DroneMobile.com

Cool, Catalin. I imagine that remote start is a popular option in Canada. Any experience with these?

Here is the one I'd love to get:

I can't say that it gets very cold around our parts (Vancouver BC) but yes remote starters are pretty popular.

I have never see the ones you mentioned, certainly it's a great looking remote. Question is can our key transponder be somehow transplanted into that remote? If not then you'd still have to carry the original KIA remote or bypass the factory immobilizer full time.

Just had one installed by the dealer. He uses Ziebart here in the US.
They needed to order another key for the remote starter. It needs to match the same code as the starter system.

You mentioned key. I'm still searching for one that will work for the push button start.

I should have updated this earlier, sorry for the tardiness. Back in early march I talked with the installer that had put one into a Borrego with the push button start. They ended up removing it from the vehicle as the were too many problems. Needless to say I haven't pursued this for a while.

Catalin, the bypass module you linked to was the same one that this particular installer used. One of the problems he mentioned was permantly disabling the factory imobilization system among a few other security features. You would also have to sacrifice one the key fobs to make it sort of work. Not the real fuzzy feeling I was hoping for.
So, until someone can install one without disabling certain features and sacrificing one of the $200.00+ key fobs I guess I'll have to continue to have my kids start the car in -20 below temps.
